This is my first attempt at spoken word.
It was done in one take.
I wish the answer to “I’m fat,” wasn’t, “No, but you look gorgeous!”
But instead was, “Yes, and you’re gorgeous.”
When I am a mother, I will not tell my daughter
“Your eye makeup really makes your eyes POP
And look bigger
You look so good with eyeliner on”
Because that would suggest that the other 10% of the time
When she is not wearing make up
Because no one is watching her
Her eyes are too small.
Personally, I hate the way make up makes me look
I hate the way make up feels
And I hate the way make up makes me feel
Because it makes me feel like I am imperfect
Because even with make up on, no one looks perfect
And if I’ve already painted an unnatural face onto the one I was born with
And I still don’t look perfect
What does that mean about when I haven’t put on a face?
Don’t I look good au naturel?
With eyes that were built in to my face
A nose big enough to breathe and inhale and gasp and smell
Lips the perfect shade of pink
That I was meant to have
That pronounces the amount of blood rushing to my face
Cheeks however ruddy enough to represent that I am alive
A figure made from eating and exercising however much I want
The exact right amount that makes me happiest
Isn’t that what’s most important?
A face full of make up denotes that I can be improved upon
A body constantly dieting indicates that I am striving to be better
And striving to be better means that I am not good enough already
But when I am a mother
When I am a mother, I will tell my daughter that acne is a sign of growing up
That stretch marks are tiger stripes that represent a warrior soul is in this body
That body hair means that she is a woman
Grown up and able to make her own choices
And I will tell her that even with eyes that don’t POP
She is perfect.
Be kind to everyone you meet
Especially unkind people because they are the people who need it the most. When you seek beauty in all things, not only will you find it but you will become it. Good manners and kindness will get you far in life and they cost nothing. Speaking…
Throughout my entire life more than once I have tried to lose weight. I’ve tried different crash diets, worked out for months until I couldn’t walk but as soon as I didn’t get results as quickly as they had promised I gave up. After giving up I hated myself even more. Now I am learning that I need to love myself now as I am right now. Before I can change my outside image long-term I have to change the inside.
It’s time to fall in love with myself.
So I’ll take care of myself <3
